Get your car sticker: | Slane residents protest on N2. Up to 70 local residents of Slane took to the N2 to protest the ongoing lack of action on the road safety problem. Traffic was blocked for 30 minutes causing significant tailbacks on all roads leading to the village. Residents are very angry and frustrated at the years spent by responsible authorities ignoring the problem. A very strong message was sent out locally and nationally that the people of Slane are no longer willing to tolerate the continued inaction. One protester commented that if the volume of road accidents in a town dictates whether or not it is bypassed then Slane has more than reached its quota of deaths. It is clear that bypasses are constructed on economic grounds to shorten journey times by a matter of minutes rather than to save lives.
